Obviously a good shot under stress, but a 9mm! Wow!

    WOW!!!! Thanks for the post....

I've traveled to the Alaska several times for fishing trips in the back country. We fly about 90 miles out into the middle of nowhere, get dropped off, set up an operation point....... and its full of bears. Fortunately, there's so much food for the bears they usually ignore us.

Thru those years I have had three bear encounters.....each time I have been able to shout them down while jumping up and down and insulting their heritage in a very loud voice. HOWEVER.....I carry a Smith and Wesson 500 in a chest holster and had it in my hand as a last resort with each encounter.

Its a great article, but honestly, if my guide was carrying only a 9mm I would refuse to go on the trip. There is another story of a well known guide killing a bear on a guide trip. When they examined it, it had 17, 357 previous shots to the chest that obviously didn't kill it.

Most guides we've met up there even tell me my S/W 500 is not enough and recommend a long gun.
